Homework Agenda

Every day at 2:25 students take time to write down any homework assignments in their Dayspring Academy Homework Agendas.

I write down the assignments on the "Homework" board each
afternoon. There is no mistake about what they are asked
to do! Please be sure and check their agendas each night! :)

You can also see our Daily Agenda board in this photo. (With
most of the days activities marked through after we completed
it.) I write down the highlights of our day on this each morning. Students
can see at a glance what we will be working on for the day. It
helps keep us all on task!

I would like to take just a moment to offer my condolences to the Zachery's. - I am so sorry for your loss. I have never experienced the loss of a parent, but I have lost close family members. I will pray for you and your family this upcoming week, as I'm sure others will do as well. Please let me know if there is anything that your Dayspring family can do to help.

Check out these snazzy journals! The kiddo's are so proud of their new "Monday Journal".

Writing!!

Students are working on their first Personal Narrative piece right now. This kind of writing is new to them, but they are doing great! The writing notebooks are working wonderfully. Students are staying organized and on task. I will try my best to have their pieces ready for display this Thursday evening at Parent Orientation.

Helen Keller quote

"The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller

We are reading "Who is Helen Keller" in class as our first novel unit. It's a fairly easy read, but is such a great story. I placed this quote on the wall in my classroom over the weekend. I was so delighted by the conversation that we had this morning! Sweet, sweet kiddo's!

Meet the teacher!

I love to teach third grade and I am blessed to be teaching at the BEST school in the world, Dayspring Academy!

This is my seventh year in the classroom, and each new year brings just as much excitement as the first year I taught . I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. It is my hearts desire to be the teacher that God would have me to be. I strive to continually challenge my students and encourage them to reach for new heights.

My students hit the floor running in the morning with a Daily Language Review and a Problem of the Day. As they work, I check homework folders and make sure that everyone is ready for the day. Math class begins just as soon as announcements are over. After a review of the previous days lesson, we jump right in to new learning. Spelling and snack are next on the agenda, followed by reading and writing. In addition to following Houghton Mifflin reading curriculum, I supplement our reading and writing with novel units. Social studies and science fill our afternoon with lots of fun and excitement! (Obviously there are additional things added into our day - this is just a brief overview.)

On the first day of class I asked students to bring five things (stuffed inside this red bag) that would tell me about themselves. I told them that I would do the same. Here is a picture of the five things that I shared with my students. 1) I showed them a picture of my son, Andy. He is my sunshine! I am blessed to have an amazing son with a big heart! 2) I had to take a model car. My late brother loved cars! 3) Serving God is the number one priority in my life, so taking a bible just made sense! 4) If you look very closely, you can see my pedometer. I try to walk a couple of miles at least three days a week. I enjoy spending some time walking and reflecting on my day. 5) Upon the recommendation of a friend, I took an apple to school. ;)

I was once a third grader!

I look forward to an amazing year! Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions.

Math Challenge

We had our first math challenge today! Students teamed up to review for tomorrows first math test. The pair of students that answered every question correctly on the chapter review won a prize. Caleb and Jonathan were our winners today - each earning a new Nerf football. Good job, boys!

A great day!

Thought you might enjoy seeing how well the kids are adjusting to a new school year. We are still learning routines and procedures; third grade is a BIG year!

Caroline is working on her math lesson. We learned about ordinal numbers this morning and ways that we use them in everyday life. They love that they are working from a real textbook this year instead of an over-sized workbook.

Caleb is helping Logan work on his DLR (Daily Language Review). I encourage students to help each other when their classmates have a question.

We had so much fun in Science class today. Caleb and Mia are learning how to use a Push-Pull Meter to measure units of force.

Look at that smile!

Maddie looks serious in this photo! She is working on her lab worksheet with group members.
