Meet the teacher!

I love to teach third grade and I am blessed to be teaching at the BEST school in the world, Dayspring Academy!

This is my seventh year in the classroom, and each new year brings just as much excitement as the first year I taught . I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. It is my hearts desire to be the teacher that God would have me to be. I strive to continually challenge my students and encourage them to reach for new heights.

My students hit the floor running in the morning with a Daily Language Review and a Problem of the Day. As they work, I check homework folders and make sure that everyone is ready for the day. Math class begins just as soon as announcements are over. After a review of the previous days lesson, we jump right in to new learning. Spelling and snack are next on the agenda, followed by reading and writing. In addition to following Houghton Mifflin reading curriculum, I supplement our reading and writing with novel units. Social studies and science fill our afternoon with lots of fun and excitement! (Obviously there are additional things added into our day - this is just a brief overview.)

On the first day of class I asked students to bring five things (stuffed inside this red bag) that would tell me about themselves. I told them that I would do the same. Here is a picture of the five things that I shared with my students. 1) I showed them a picture of my son, Andy. He is my sunshine! I am blessed to have an amazing son with a big heart! 2) I had to take a model car. My late brother loved cars! 3) Serving God is the number one priority in my life, so taking a bible just made sense! 4) If you look very closely, you can see my pedometer. I try to walk a couple of miles at least three days a week. I enjoy spending some time walking and reflecting on my day. 5) Upon the recommendation of a friend, I took an apple to school. ;)

I was once a third grader!

I look forward to an amazing year! Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions.
